Nécessaire’s New Shampoo and Conditioner Turned Me Into An Optimist

Beauty

Here’s a little background information on me and my hair: I am the proud owner of mistreated, heat-damaged curls, which makes me very, very wary of new products. When I go on vacation with my boyfriend, he uses the hotel’s mini bottles of shampoo and conditioner. I giggle at this while unpacking the ten hair products I need to look halfway decent. This isn’t just about styling products, either. If I use a shampoo that doesn’t fit my lifestyle, I’ll be going out with insane amounts of frizz and flyaways that no hair oil can cure.

So I was skeptical about trying Nécessaire’s new shampoo and conditioner. For one thing, while I love their body products, they’re not exclusively a hair brand. For hair like mine that needs an absurd amount of care and attention, a brand that isn’t hair-specific makes me suspicious. For another thing, this shampoo and conditioner duo are marketed towards scalp health. No brag, but I have an itch- and flake-free scalp.

Forget scalp health, I thought pessimistically, while unboxing the products. Where is the shampoo that will magically seal all my split-ends?

I thought about not using them for a second, but seeing that Nécessaire is a staple for beauty editors, and I didn’t want to get left out of the group chat, I decided to give it a go. The shampoo gave an intense lather, despite being sulfate-free which was very pleasing to me, given that my bangs are just sponges for sweat during the summer. Then, after a nice scalp massage, I rinsed it off and felt my new squeaky-clean hair. Unfortunately, it was so clean that it felt almost a little dry. Strike one, I thought, because I was in a bad mood.

But then came the conditioner. Upon impact with my hair, all the tangles that I’ve been sporting during my days of wearing my hair curly immediately came apart. It had the consistency of a regular conditioner with the intensity of a hair masque, and I immediately forgot all my suspicions and began to love these products. Post-shower, I let my hair air-dry for 20 minutes before going in with a blow dryer, as is my ritual. I was left with frizz-free, nourished, clean, and baby-soft hair at the end of it.

So now, officially, let me say: Nécessaire, I’m sorry for being skeptical about your hair products because they are genuinely and honestly wonderful. Dare I say, they are now necessary parts of my shower routine.
