Menstrual discs are sometimes confused with menstrual cups, but these flat, round period-care products have quite a few significant differences.
Unlike menstrual cups, which sit inside the vaginal canal to collect fluid, menstrual discs sit at the cervix and are tucked behind the pubic bone. Because of where they are placed, many discs can actually be worn during sex — though it’s important to remember that they are not a form of contraception.
However, just like their menstrual-cup cousins, menstrual discs can be worn for a longer time period than tampons or pads, and when placed correctly, they can be incredibly comfortable. Many menstrual discs are also offered in reusable formats, making them a more sustainable monthly menstruation choice than tampons or disposable pads.
