Emily Blunt is out here clarifying a comment she made about her co-star Tom Cruise. But let’s rewind a moment in the event that you missed this non-drama.
Emily did an interview with the Smartless podcast and chatted about working with Tom on Edge of Tomorrow in 2014. Turns out they had to wear enormous suits for the movie, and Emily said that Tom called her a “p***y” when she got stressed and cried.
“The first time I put it on I just started to cry in front of Tom and he didn’t know what to do,” she said. “I was like, ‘Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot,’ and just started to cry. I was like, ‘I’m feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot,’ and he stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do. and he goes, ‘Come on, stop being such a pussy, okay?’ …I did laugh, and then we got through it.”
The reaction to this story was pretty strong, prompting Emily to give a statement to E! News and say that her comments were “taken literally and absurdly out of context.”
“It’s ludicrous that it’s being spun as something that offended me,” Emily said. “It didn’t. I shared the story as lightheartedly as it was meant by Tom.” She added, “I absolutely adore Tom, he’s a dear friend and he was a total gem to me. It was said as a joke to make me laugh, which it did in a big way. And it’s still something we laugh about to this day.”
