How Amanda Seyfried Handled a Wardrobe Malfunction at the Critics Choice Awards

Culture

On Sunday, actress and award winner Amanda Seyfried was looking glamorous on the red carpet of the 2023 Critics Choice Awards at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, wearing a shiny gold archival Dior gown. Unfortunately, the gown didn’t quite make it through the entire show. The dress was floor-length, with a flowing skirt that she picked up to reveal her matching strappy gold sandal heels.

The dress’s bodice connected to the bottom with a knot of fabric at Seyfried’s torso, then crossed over her shoulders, creating strategic cutouts. She had her blonde hair in an updo with some framing bangs, and wore a statement necklace with a gold setting and blue and white stones. Her makeup was a natural palette, but she had on a coral red lip for a little more color.

Seyfried took home the award for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television for her performance as Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout. As she went on stage, she seemed to be struggling with her outfit, holding up the back to keep it from slipping off her shoulders.

The Dropout won another award for Best Limited Series, and when she got on stage with the cast and crew she was wearing a black leather jacket over her original look.

A little wardrobe malfunction wasn’t going to stop her fun, and she casually told Access Hollywood after the ceremony that the dress was “ripping” and had been “actually breaking” during the ceremonies.

She added, “It’s fine! Honestly, it’s old.”

That’s always the risk of vintage and she clearly had a back up plan. ET‘s Denny Directo interviewed Seyfried just before the event and she already knew things were going downhill, saying of her dress, “I’m just trying to keep it on.”
