Kate Middleton’s first garden party look under King Charles’ reign was something old and blue. The Princess of Wales attended Charles’ coronation garden party at Buckingham Palace today wearing a sheer Elie Saab dress that she originally debuted at the 2019 Royal Ascot. Kate added a matching blue hat and had her hair styled in a low bun.
She and Prince William couple-dressed for the occasion, with the Prince of Wales wearing a black suit and top hat with light blue accents that complemented Kate’s dress.
Kate and William have been diligently documenting the coronation festivities on their Instagram. Of the garden party, they wrote alongside a carousel of photos, “Celebrating people who do extraordinary things 🫖 🍰.”
But their most striking post was behind-the-scene footage from coronation day itself. “What. A. Day,” the couple wrote alongside the intimate video of their family on Saturday. “Thank you to everyone who made it happen #Coronation.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, have taken part in multiple coronation activities. George was even in the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey himself, serving as a page of honour.
Ahead of that day, Kate spoke about how she had a little more anxiety about the service than her children did. Mandy Leifheit of Seattle told People that she spoke to Kate on Thursday while the princess was visiting London’s Soho. “I asked if the kids were excited about the coronation, and she said, ‘They’re very excited. They had their rehearsal yesterday [Wednesday] so they knew what they’d expect,’” Leifheit recalled. “She said she’s more nervous than the kids are since it’s such a big event for the kids to be part of. She said Louis will be there and that he’ll remember it.”
