For everyone who has asked Normani, “Where’s the damn album?”, she hears you. In fact, she has been so hounded by the question over the past few years that she has turned it into a website to announce her long-awaited debut. On wheresthedamnalbum.com, Normani made it official: Her album, Dopamine, is dropping this year.
Surely, fans can be forgiven for their nonstop questioning. The former Fifth Harmony member has shown superstar potential ever since her days in the girl group. She generated even more hype when she released her solo single “Motivation” in 2019, creating an instant hit. (Remember that VMA performance? Legendary.) The momentum seemed to build toward an album release, but hopeful listeners remained waiting for nearly five years.
Ever since Fifth Harmony went on hiatus in 2018, Normani has released only a handful of singles, many of them collaborations with artists like Khalid, Sam Smith, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B. (That last collab, “Wild Side,” led to its own steamy VMA performance too.) She also released the vulnerable ballad “Fair” in 2022. But the demand and anticipation has remained strong; Normani has 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and her song “Dancing with a Stranger” with Smith has over a billion streams.
Last August, Rolling Stone reported that she signed with new management, hinting that something was finally on the way. At last, we have our answer. Ahead is everything we know about Normani’s highly anticipated album.
When will the album be released?
All we know is that Dopamine will come some time in 2024. On her website, the potential release date is constantly changing, but the year remains the same. We’ll have to wait for an official date announcement.
What’s the cover art?
Check this out. Normani cleared her Instagram feed and then posted the official cover art for Dopamine, featuring her riding a black rocket dressed in a leather and chain bikini. Her arms and legs are also painted black. “Crying typing this rn,” she wrote in the caption.
