Musical comedy Girls5eva was canceled on its original streaming home, Peacock, but it was just picked up by Netflix, which means even more viewers will get the chance to fall in love with the Tina Fey executive produced show. Created by writer Meredith Scardino, who also worked with Fey on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the story follows a girl group who were one hit wonders in the Y2K-era. The pop stars get brought back to life when their song is sampled by a huge rapper, and they decide to chase their dream again as middle-aged women.
It was announced that Netflix would keep their ride to fame going in October 2022, but the third season was only released on March 14, 2024. Fans are already wondering if there will be a season four. Here’s everything we know about the possibility so far.
Has Girls5eva been renewed for season four?
If it’s up to Scardino, she would love to come back for another season, according to an interview she recently did with Decider.
“I would like to do one. I would like to see the story continue, assuming people watch it and love it,” she said, adding that she has “a notes app [full] of a bunch of ideas and things.”
However, there’s been no official word from Netflix yet. Season three hasn’t been out long, so they may be waiting to see what the response it from subscribers.
When is season four of Girls5eva being released?
While on Peacock, Girls5eva‘s first two seasons premiered in May 2021 and 2022. Season three came out in March 2024, which is a bigger gap, but there was a platform switch in between. However, when Fey’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was on Netflix it was released yearly. So, the show could potentially be back in Spring 2025.
What will season four of Girls5eva be about?
At the end of the season three finale, the girls of Girls5eva have actually seen some success from their efforts. They sell out a Thanksgiving Day concert at Radio City Music Hall, using semi-nefarious means on Ticketmaster, which is a win. But there is some tension in the group when Wickie unexpectedly receives some solo performance attention. Her song “Yesternights” has appeared in The Crown‘s finale, upping her clout. The question is if she can bring the rest of the crew along with her to higher levels of success. Another season would likely build on this decision for Wickie and her commitment to the group, and investigate what else changes when their dreams actually start coming true.
Who returning for Girls5eva season 4?
The show stars Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, and Paula Pell as Dawn, Wickie, Summer, and Gloria, respectively. Since they’re the show’s headliners, they would likely be back for another season.
