Anya Taylor-Joy went for full warrior couture to promote her new film, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The actress debuted her first premiere look in Sydney today, wearing a gold arrow-adorned minidress from Paco Rabanne’s spring 1996 couture collection. With her matching headpiece and cat eye, Taylor-Joy looked like an extravagant, modern version of Athena, the Greek goddess of war, on the red carpet. Her co-star Chris Hemsworth wore a gray suit alongside her, letting her take the sartorial spotlight. He also kept a little distance to avoid getting pricked.
The premiere look was actually Taylor-Joy’s second outfit of the day. Her first ensemble, a burnt-orange Rick Owens dress, was a little more traditional for a press tour. It still had some edge though, with its long, structured skirt:
Taylor-Joy shared a carousel of images from her day in Sydney, captioning them, “Taste the rainbow🌈”
The actress reflected on playing a younger Furiosa in Entertainment Weekly’s cover story on the film released this week. She shared that she did not speak to Charlize Theron, who played the part in the previous Mad Max films, until after she finished filming the prequel.
Taylor-Joy explained her reasoning, saying, “You have to go on your own journey with it. But as soon as it was done, I reached out to her because I’m such a fan, not only of her as an actress but her as a person. And she’s as wonderful and cool as you could possibly hope, and really supportive and classy, so I appreciated it.”
