Billie Eilish has pretty much grown up in the public eye. Her first huge hit, “Ocean Eyes,” was released when she was only 13 years old. Now at 22, Eilish has figured out how to have a personal life as an adult. In a 2020 episode of British radio show Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp, the star discussed how important privacy is to her when it comes to her love life.
“I definitely want to keep [relationships] private. I’ve had relationships and kept them private, and even the ones that I’ve had, with the tiny amount that I’ve let the world see, I regret,” she said. “I think about the people that have made their relationships public, and then they break up, and it’s like, ‘What if it goes bad?’ ”
That said, some of her experiences with romance are known about. Below is Eilish’s full romantic history so far.
Brandon Quentin Adams: 2018–2019
Brandon Quentin Adams has many names; on stage he is called 7:AMP, and Eilish always refers to him as “Q.”
At 17 years old, she started dating the then-22-year-old rapper, and they managed to keep it from the public. In her 2021 documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, Eilish revealed she and Adams had dated for about a year before breaking up.
“I just wasn’t happy. I didn’t want the same things he wanted, and I don’t think that’s fair for him,” she said. “I don’t think you should be in a relationship super excited about things that the other person couldn’t care less about. … There was just a lack of effort.”
She continued, “I do love him, though, which made it harder. I’m not over him; I didn’t find someone else. I didn’t stop having love for him. I just spent time away from him for a little bit, and I was like, ‘Wow! I’m missing so much because I’m worried about you all the time, and I don’t want what you want, and you don’t want what I want.’ I don’t want to fix him. I can’t fix him. I tried.”
After the movie’s release, Adams addressed criticism of their relationship on social media, saying, “Sometimes people disagree and don’t want the same things as one another. It’s on you to understand there’s several points of view to a situation…Anyone who knows me knows where my heart is. I stay with a smile on my face even when I’m hurting.”
On her Instagram Story, Eilish asked her fans “to be nice to people no matter what.”
While they dated, Eilish appeared on the cover of the rapper’s album Bleaupro.
Matthew Tyler Vorce: 2021–2022
The singer was first seen with 2 Little Monsters actor Matthew Tyler Vorce, taking a walk with her dog Shark in Santa Barbara, according to Page Six. But they did not confirm the relationship until close to when they broke up in 2022 after a year of dating. Vorce commented on the breakup by denying cheating rumors on his Instagram account.
“The fact that thousands of people take time out of their day to write the most heinous things on someone they will never know[’]s posts is the most cowardly thing you can possibly do,” he wrote. “Live your own life…Nobody cheated on anyone. Relationships end. Simple as that. Creating rumors and LYING on the internet is dangerous.”
Jesse Rutherford: 2022–2023
Eilish and The Neighbourhood singer Jesse Rutherford dated for seven months. They were first linked in October 2022. Entertainment Tonight shared photos of them kissing in Los Angeles after having dinner at Crossroads Kitchen.
A source told the publication, “It definitely seemed like a date, and they stayed there for three hours … Billie touched the back of Jesse’s head for a long time, he kissed her on the cheek, and they both kissed on the lips.”
They continued to be spotted out, including at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. They went public with their relationship on November 1, when Eilish posted a now-deleted photo of their couple’s Halloween costume. She was dressed as a baby, and Rutherford was dressed as an old man. It was presumably a reference to their 11-year age gap, which was commented on a lot by fans. She captioned the post, “Life is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy.”
That same month, they went red carpet official at the 2022 Lacma Gala in Los Angeles. They were even wearing a couple’s outfit, clad in matching Gucci sleepwear.
In a 2022 interview with Vanity Fair, Eilish was very open about Rutherford.
“Yeah, I do [have a boyfriend now],” she said. “And it’s really cool, and I’m really excited, and I’m really happy about it. I managed to get my way to a point in my life … where I not only was known by a person that I thought was the hottest fucking fucker alive, but pulled his ass. Are you kidding me? Can we just—round of applause for me. Thank you! Jesse Rutherford, everyone! I pulled his ass—all me! I did that shit. I locked that motherfucker down.”
In March 2023, they walked the red carpet again at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. They split up in May. Eilish’s rep shared a statement with Page Six that read, “We can confirm Billie and Jesse did split amicably and remain good friends.” The rep added that any rumors of infidelity were “false.”
Quenlin Blackwell: 2024–
Eilish has not openly said anything about dating internet star Quenlin Blackwell, but she was spotted laying a kiss on Blackwell at Coachella in early 2024. Eilish played a DJ set where she debuted her new song “Lunch,” which sounds like it’s definitely about a relationship between two women.
“I could eat that girl for lunch / Yeah, she dances on my tongue / Tastes like she might be the one,” she sings. “And I can never get enough / I could buy her so much stuff / It’s a craving, not a crush / Call me when you’re there.”
Eilish has also appeared in a few of Blackwell’s Tiktoks, so they are friends at the very least.
