Everything We Know About ‘Virgin River’ Season 7

Culture

In late October, it was announced that Virgin River had been renewed for season seven, before season six’s release in December. The show’s success for Netflix is undeniable and another season was pretty much inevitable. According to Deadline, Virgin River is Netflix’s “longest-running current original scripted series” and their “longest-running English-language drama series.”

The first season introduced Melinda Monroe, a nurse practitioner looking for a fresh start in a small California town called Virgin River. There, she meets Jack Sheridan, a local bar owner and the love of her life.

Post announcement, in an interview with Tudum, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith stated, “There’s a lot more to go here with these characters.”

Here’s what we know about season seven of Virgin River so far.

What will season seven of Virgin River be about?

Mel and Jack have finally wed, and the whole process of being a married couple will be unfolding in season six and seven, according to comments from Smith.

“I think we’ve only just begun to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is exciting,” said Smith, adding that the following seasons will “explore the honeymoon phase for them as they’re building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles.”

He did assure fans that their relationship is secure, despite trials and love triangles in the past.

“I can’t imagine creating a scenario where you think Mel and Jack are going to break up,” Smith explained. “It forces you to dig a little bit deeper into, well, what other issues can they have in their relationship? Especially when you want to keep it through the romance lens. I think Alex and Martin play all of those [moments so well], it’s just resting on emotional stakes as opposed to will they, won’t they.”

There are also plenty of other characters going through it in their relationships: Hope and Doc just got back together, Preacher and Kaia reconnected during the town’s wildfire, and Lizzie and Denny are expecting a baby. That means lots of potential conflict and resolution.

“Especially with Hope and Doc, getting to tell love stories between two people at that age is something that television never does,” Smith added. “Or if they do, it’s for comic relief or something. So the more that we get to grow those characters and dig into them, it just feels special. It feels like nothing else anybody is doing on television.”

Who will be cast in season seven of Virgin River?

The show is led by Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel, and Martin Henderson as Jack. The show’s other regulars include Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Marco Grazzini, Kai Bradbury, Kandyse McClure, and Mark Ghanime. Of course, anything could change in season six, including who makes it to the next season.

When is season seven of Virgin River going to be released?

Season six is debuting on Thursday, December 19. News on when to expect season seven has not yet been shared.

This post will be updated.
