Actress Greta Lee is a familiar face to fans of prestige TV, with recurring roles in shows like The Morning Show, Girls, and Russian Doll. Lee recently starred in a new movie from A24, a romantic drama titled Past Lives. Fans are naturally curious about Lee’s romantic life off-screen, but she doesn’t have much of a presence on social media on her own. Her husband, however, is another story.
Screenwriter Russ Armstrong posts frequently about his wife. They’ve been together over a decade and share two kids.
Here’s everything to know about Armstrong, Lee, and their family.
Who is Russ Armstrong?
Armstrong is both an actor and writer, who may be known to fans of Tina Fey’s 30 Rock, where he played a small comedic character named “Jeb.” He went on to a bigger role in Aziz Ansari’s Master of None, but his main work the past few years has been as a producer. Armstrong produced 13 episodes of The Daily Show and three episodes of Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj. He’s also written for The Opposition With Jordan Klepper and When Nature Calls.
How long have they been together?
Lee went to college in Chicago, and that’s around when she met Armstrong. Here’s an amazing #TBT from what Armstrong describes as being “sometime during Obama’s first term.”
They were married in 2014.
What has Lee said about Armstrong?
She doesn’t give many details, but in an interview, Lee shared that they attend couple’s therapy for “maintenance” even when things are going well. They also decided to move out of NYC after 10 years there to live a quieter family life in a suburb of Los Angeles.
Lee said, “The thing that’s crazy about us people is what happens when you don’t have that battle anymore. Living in New York, feeling like it’s life or death daily, to now just this, it can really make you bananas.”
She has also said she is most proud of “my life with my family.”
Do Lee and Armstrong have children?
The pair welcomed their son Apollo in August 2016, and Armstrong posted, “Greta and I are excited to announce the birth of our son, Apollo Joosung Armstrong. He was born on Korean Liberation Day, August 15th, 2016 at 12:30 pm, 8 lbs 10 ounces and 48.5 cm, healthy and screaming. Love this guy.”
In 2019, they welcomed their second son, Raphael Joobaek.
Lee told Yahoo! Lifestyle that they’re already teaching their kids to manage the home with some strategic age-appropriate chores.
“Our 4-year-old, at the end of every meal, busses his own plates,” she said. “There’s a lot of watering of the garden that happens. They each have their watering cans. It’s important for us to have them participate in domestic life, in keeping things running in the house and not assuming that everything’s just going to be done for them.”
A month after their second child was born, for Mother’s Day, Armstrong shared a sweet tribute to his wife.
“Raising kids with a partner is a gamble,” he wrote. “When you start dating someone in your 20s, you’re generally not considering whether they can whip up a rocket out of a cardboard boxes. No parent is perfect, or very good, at first. I’m not. But I feel like I hit the lottery with you.”
