On Wednesday, Angelina Jolie spoke during a panel at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and opened up a bit about her relationship to her kids and their relationship to her fame. The actress shares six children with her former husband, Brad Pitt, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
The star explained that none of her children have any interest in acting, but 18-year-old Shiloh in particular is “extremely private.”
“They really don’t like any of the celebrity part of it, especially Shiloh hates it,” Jolie said, according to the Daily Mail. “It’s not a normal thing. It’s a silly thing, really.”
She continued, “That’s not my doing. I always wanted them to be around film because … it’s such a wonderful family, to be creative, to be an artist … They’re not interested…Some of them dance, some of them paint, some of them love theater, but none of them are dying to be on screen.”
However, a few of her kids have had an interest in working behind-the-camera. Maddox and Pax both worked as assistant directors on Jolie’s latest project, Maria, and Pax was credited with additional photography from the set. Jolie’s daughter Vivienne worked with her mother on the Broadway production of The Outsiders in a production role.
“It’s good to start them in working,” Jolie said proudly. “[You’ve] got to run around and do anything for everybody. And so they’ve been doing that in a few films.”
In November 2024, she told Good Morning America a similar story, saying that “none” of her children “want to be in front of the camera.”
“They are quite private,” she said, remarking again that Shiloh is “extremely private.”
“They weren’t born with privacy,” Jolie explained. “So I hope they can have that as they get older.”
