Bella Hadid returned to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this evening in France, wearing a dramatic Versace bustier dress designed to draw attention to her very cinched waist. Hadid wore her hair up in curls, showing off her dangling Chopard diamond earrings as she posed at the L’Amour Ouf premiere.
Hadid and her stylist, Molly Dickson, pulled from the Versace archives for this red carpet look; the dress is from the fashion house’s spring/summer 2001 couture collection.
This isn’t Hadid’s only archival look in Cannes. Earlier today, she wore a red and white keffiyeh dress by Michael and Hushi, originally from 2001, as a nod to her Palestinian heritage. On Wednesday night, she wore a backless Dsquared2 gown from the fall/winter 2006 collection to Chopard’s dinner. She accessorized, of course, with diamonds from the jewelry brand.
Hadid made a splash during her first Cannes Film Festival red carpet appearance this week when she stepped out in a sheer Saint Laurent dress on May 20. She spent the last two years away from the film festival, where she has historically worn some of her boldest red carpet looks.
The reason for her absence might stem from the decision Hadid quietly made to informally step back from modeling. She told Allure last month, “After 10 years of modeling, I realized I was putting so much energy and love and effort into something that, in the long run, wasn’t necessarily giving it back to me.”
She explained that only doing the events she wants to do has really helped her mental health. “For the first time now, I’m not putting on a fake face,” she said. “If I don’t feel good, I won’t go. If I don’t feel good, I take time for myself. And I’ve never had the opportunity to do that or say that before. Now when anybody sees me in pictures and they say, I look happy, I genuinely am. I am feeling better; my bad days now were my old good days.”
