Billie Eilish has not been very public with her romantic relationships, but she did have a very visible boyfriend last year, The Neighbourhood frontman Jesse Rutherford. She also publicly dated actor Matthew Tyler Vorce, breaking it off in 2022. Fans have wondered what happened in those relationships, and she may have possibly just offered some insight.
The 20-year-old recently sat down with British journalist Amelia Dimoldenberg, who also hosts Chicken Shop Date, a popular YouTube series on life and love. Eilish was joined by her brother Finneas for the conversation, which was centered around the upcoming Oscars. The sister and brother pair will be performing their song “WWIMF” live at the big event. In the interview, Eilish shared a bit about why she broke up with…someone.
“I got to be real: A couple years ago, I had a dream about Christian Bale and it was at a little cafe in the sunlight,” the “Bad Guy” singer admitted. “And it made me realize that I had to breakup with my boyfriend at the time.”
As Dimoldenberg and Finneas laughed, she continued, “Genuinely, I woke up and I came to my senses.”
In an interview in late 2022, soon after confirming her relationship with Rutherford, the pop star told High Snobiety, “Falling in love is hard for me. It’s a spooky ting, love. It’s really spooky.”
Eilish also opened up about her fashion evolution and how it’s been a part of growing up in the spotlight while navigating gender expectations.
“There’s a performative nature to fashion week that really pisses me off, because I’m like, ‘Please pay attention to the clothes,’” she said. “People saw me as this 15-year-old, a kid, who wore this kind of stuff, looked this kind of way, acted this kind of way, said this kind of way. I felt like I couldn’t change. That’s why I went so far to the other side…I was trying to prove, ‘Hey, f–k you guys, I can do whatever I want.’ Now I can look really masculine if I want, and really feminine if I want, and it’s not gonna be a f—ing headline.”
