Bioderma’s Micellar Water Is The Only Makeup Remover I Stan

Beauty

Not to sound like 2010’s hipster, but I liked the Bioderma Sensibo H20 Micellar Water first:

  1. I had to scour New York City boutique pharmacies to find somewhere that sold it back in my day.
  2. I had to order it online directly from France.
  3. I had to make friends in Europe ship it to me, which cost multiples of the product.

It was a dark, smug time.

But here’s the why: I hate taking off my makeup. So much so that I actively cultivated the persona of the girl that goes bare-faced everywhere, making people believe that it’s because I prefer the natural look (Which is a lie. See: my job. Also see: My insane makeup collection) when really I’m just trying to find a way to avoid washing my face at night.

The traditional products for the lazy like me have their downsides. Oil cleansers and cleansing balms are nothing if not efficient, but I need to double cleanse when I use them to wash off that film of grease that makes me break out. Makeup wipes want you to think they can double as a cleanser, but they absolutely cannot, no matter how gentle or unfragranced they say they are. If I see one more influencer “cleanse” her skin by sandpapering off her makeup with a wipe, I swear I’ll host an intervention. From 12:30-1: “No, makeup wipes are not cleansers.” From 1:30-2: “Just wear SPF, for the love of God.”

    But I digress.

The Bioderma Micellar Water is the answer to my prayers. Not only pretty low-cost, but it’s non-greasy (the texture is like water) and yet dissolves even my most stubborn makeup. If I’m attempting a cat eye or red lip, a small dot of this potion on a cotton swap can get me the razor-sharp edges I’m looking for. My preferred transportation method from the bottle to my face is cotton rounds. I soak up a round, place it on my eyes, and let it break down my mascara and eyeliner before moving to the rest of my face. Note: I said place, not rub— another item to add to my intervention.

The best part–aside from getting me makeup-free in a matter of seconds–is that I can truly just move on to my regular skincare routine after swiping off all the makeup off my face. I’ll do my cotton round routine until nothing shows up on them anymore. If I feel particularly obsessive about not leaving any makeup remover residue on my face, a simple splash of water can remove anything left behind. All in all, it cuts my nighttime routine in half. If you ask me, that’s just about the best thing that could happen to me.
