Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ relationship began like a rom-com when the two friends realized they had chemistry while on a double date with different people. The movie-worthy romantic gestures only continued long after they started dating, Lively told People this week.
The outlet asked her about the best bouquet of flowers she had ever received, as Lively plays a florist in her new film, It Ends With Us.
Lively replied, “When my husband and I first got together, he would send me a bouquet of flowers every week, but he would always send a card and it would just be a sentence of something that had happened that week. Something funny or emotional that one of us said. It was just a little quote of the week. It was such a beautiful, romantic thing. Now we have 4,000 children!” (The couple in reality has four children, three daughters and a son.)
Reynolds and Lively have been extremely supportive of each other during their press tours this summer. Lively brought Gigi Hadid out for Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine premiere and made a special appearance in the film.
Reynolds, Lively shared earlier this week, helped write a scene in It Ends With Us. “The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it,” she told E!. “He works on everything I do,” she added. “I work on everything he does. So his wins, his celebrations are mine and mine are his.”
Reynolds told the story of his and Lively’s accidental first date way back in February 2016. The two stars met when they were co-stars on Green Lantern and remained friends after filming.
“I remember it was funny because for about a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and all that stuff, we were both single,” he shared. “We went on a double date with—she was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl, and that was the most awkward date from their perspective probably because we were just like fireworks coming across. Yeah, it was like this first weird [date]—but we were buddies for a long time. I think it’s the best way to have a relationship―to start as friends.”
