On Friday, March 22, Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden announced they welcomed their second child, a son named Cardinal Madden. The couple shared a joint statement on Instagram with an illustration, deciding not to share any photos of the infant.
“We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden❤️🙏,” they wrote in the caption. “He is awesome and We are all so happy he is here! For the kids safety and privacy we won’t be posting any pictures- but he’s a really cute ☺️We are feeling so blessed and grateful 🍀Sending much love from our fam to yours 🙏❤️Best wishes and Good Afternoon!!”
The illustration is a mix of floral and abstract shapes, with a portrait drawing and the words, “A little bird whispered to me.”
Madden and Diaz were married in 2015, and welcomed their daughter Raddix in 2019, again noting they would not be sharing photos of their baby.
“We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden,” they wrote at the time. “She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family.”
In 2022, an insider told US Weekly that after Raddix, Diaz and Madden were considering a bigger family.
“Cameron and Benji have discussed having another child and have even been looking into surrogate options for a while now,” the source said at the time. “Benji always wanted a big family, and Cameron didn’t need to be persuaded after the arrival of their daughter.”
The insider added, “They would love a boy, of course, but just want a healthy baby…The surrogacy with their daughter was something they had a lot of doubts about going in. It turned out to be the best thing they ever did.”
