Everything We Know About Rebecca Yarros’s In the Likely Event

It’s been announced that best-selling author Rebecca Yarros’s 2023 novel In the Likely Event is being adapted by Netflix. The production is team is headed by Brian Williams for Dylan Clark Productions and by Kira Cousineau, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with Dylan Clark Productions and Netflix to bring In the Likely Event to life,” Yarros said in a statement. “It’s such a special book to me and I can’t wait to see Nate and Izzy brought to the screen by such a thoughtful and passionate team of creators.”

Yarros had her high-fantasy romance novel Fourth Wing adapted into a TV show by Amazon, and has sold millions of copies. There are five books in the entire Empyrean series, and the second, Iron Flame, is already released. With the success of her previous work, it was only a matter of time before In the Likely Event was snapped up. Here’s what we know about the adaptation so far.

What is In the Likely Event about?

The book is a romance following a soldier named Nate who meets a congressional aide named Izzy. The pair first connect on an airplane that goes down in the Missouri River before crossing paths again years later during the Afghanistan war. As the danger increases, tensions rise, and the couple realizes just how far they would go for one another.

The screenplay is being penned by writer Lindsey Ferrentino, who said of the adaptation, “It’s a huge responsibility to live up to the ferocity of Rebecca Yarros’s fandom and a challenge I’m excited for. Like all of Rebecca’s books it is an epic, sweeping story and what Rebecca does so well is build these incredibly complicated worlds.”

She continued, “This is my fifth project with Netflix — which has been a wonderfully supportive home for me, letting me develop so many projects there. And with each project I’ve written for them, they’ve allowed me to write on a bigger canvas. The Rebecca Yarros book is definitely the biggest scale story I’ve adapted and am deeply grateful for the opportunity.”
