And with that, the 2024 Oscar Awards ceremony (and the award season) is officially over, but not without giving folks another chance to marvel at Cillian Murphy’s chiseled, perfectly engineered cheekbones or Coleman Domingo’s moisturized, expertly trimmed mustache.
The race for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a leading role was a rough one. Domingo’s Rustin, Bradley Cooper’s Maestro, Jeffrey Wright’s American Fiction, and Paul Giamatti’s The Holdovers were all worthy contenders, but ultimately yielded to Murphy’s Oppenheimer. Clutching a gold statue is undoubtedly a crowning achievement, but the real winners of the night were these nominees’ mugs, which were complete with a radiance akin to a Charlotte Tilbury highlighter, a razor-sharp mustache or impeccably undone beards.
If the 2024 Oscar Awards proved anything, it’s that it’s Ken’s world, and we’re just living in it. Ryan Gosling’s embellished Gucci tuxedo was punctuated by a soft, slightly understated visage. Pores? Non-existent. Dew? Softly caressing his T-zone. Perhaps a nod to the Barbie film for which he’s nominated, Gosling’s groomer, Lucy Halperin, seemingly finished the look with a subtle pinch of blush along the hollows of his cheeks that looks as soft and natural as the Glossier Cloud Paint Blush.
Next up in the face for the glowiest skin on the carpet was Bradley Cooper. Detailing the entire beauty lineup for Cooper’s Oscars look, men’s groomer Natalia Bruschi told British GQ that sheet masks are the secret to imparting a healthy sheen to the skin. Her favorites? “I love the 111 Skin Black Diamond and Depuffing sheet masks and eye masks, Jillian Dempsey Eye Masks, Caron Sheet Mask, Jaxon Lane Bro Masks, and Tatcha sheet masks,” she shared. As for Cooper’s smooth, camera-ready face, she opted for Tom Ford Beauty Traceless Foundation Sticks and Cle de Peau concealers for the complexion, and warmed him up using the Chanel Les Beige Bronzing Powders and the Sensai Bronzing Gel.
Of all the lights on the carpet, my eyes were fixated on the one emanating from Domingo’s cheeks. The Rustin actor stepped onto the carpet with a kissed-from-the-sun warmth around the perimeter of his face, leaving just enough space for the glow atop his cheekbones to shine on its own. The glow was juxtaposed with his signature, sharp mustache.
Subdued radiance and tailored beards were all the rage on the carpet. American Fiction’s Jeffrey Wright followed suit, donning a superbly trimmed salt-and-pepper beard that was cut low but remained full.
Maybe it’s Face Gym, maybe he’s born with it—maybe it’s Maybelline. However, what we do know is that accentuating cheekbones like Murphy’s means calling in the big guns, especially ahead of big nights like the Oscar Awards. For the Oscars, celebrity groomer Gareth Bromell used an elite combo of a CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask and Sisley Paris L’Intégral Anti-Age Fresh Gel Cream to prep the skin for optimal hydration. Now, for the cheekbones, Bromell applied the Phyto-Poudre Compacte on his face and Phyto-Touche Illusion d’Eté Bronzer to restore dimension.
Meticulous skin prep, spot concealing, and a touch of bronzer—could it be that men have long mastered the no-makeup-makeup trend? Vanity isn’t only reserved for Tinseltown’s divas. As it turns out, men have their own glam squads, too.
