Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially over, and amid their divorce, Lopez is ready to drop “Affleck” from her name.
Although the singer is already known to the world as J.Lo, she changed her legal name to Jennifer Lynn Affleck after marrying Ben in 2022. Now, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly and TMZ on Thursday, she’s requested that her name be restored to her maiden name, Jennifer Lynn Lopez.
In the documents, Lopez also listed the reason for her and Affleck’s split, citing irreconcilable differences. She stated that she did not want herself nor Affleck to be awarded spousal support—instead, the couple will separate their assets and debts, per the paperwork. As the documents further show, the “exact nature and extent” of their shared property is unknown, and “will be determined.”
This summer has seen the couple go their separate ways, not just romantically but literally. Affleck spent most (if not all) of his summer on the West Coast, while Lopez hunkered down in the Hamptons for the season. On May 14, shortly after the couple’s official day of separation—April 26, per divorce filings—TMZ reported that Lopez was house-hunting on her own. In July, Affleck bought a new $20 million home for himself in Los Angeles, per People.
The pair were seldom seen together this summer either. Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday in the Hamptons with an elaborate Bridgerton-inspired party, though Affleck was notably missing. “She tried really hard to make things work, and is heartbroken,” a source told People. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
