On Friday, April 1, Miley Cyrus told her fans on Twitter that she had contracted COVID-19 while touring in Latin America the past week, but she added that it was “definitely worth it.”

“Traveling around the world, playin for 100,000 people a night & meeting hundreds of fans a day, the chances of getting Covid are pretty high,” Cyrus wrote to her nearly 47 million followers. “I have Covid now but it was definitely worth it.”

In late March, Cyrus had a concert in Bogota, Colombia, and a performance at Lollapalooza Brazil in Sao Paolo. The pop artist was scheduled to perform on the second day of Paraguay’s Asunciónico festival on March 23, but the event was canceled due to the weather. Cyrus had a scary taste of the danger the storm presented when her plane was struck by lightning on her way there—everyone was fine, but the aircraft had to make an emergency landing.

“To my fans and everyone worried after hearing about my flight to Asunción. Our plane was caught in a major unexpected storm and struck by lighting,” she tweeted, sharing footage from inside the plane. “My crew, band, friends and family who were all traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing.”

Lollapalooza Brazil also had a scheduled performance from the Foo Fighters, but their drummer Taylor Hawkins was found dead in his Bogota hotel room before the event. The death of the 50-year-old musician was completely unexpected and he was a good friend to Cyrus. During her set at Lolla, Cyrus honored Hawkins, describing the emergency landing and how she wished she could have seen him one more time.

“We had to make this emergency landing, and the first person I called was Taylor because he was already at the festival,” she said. “That would’ve been the time that I would’ve gotten to see my friend, and I didn’t, so it makes me really sad. I would’ve done anything to hang out with him one more time.”
