Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco surprise dropped their new song, “Scared of Loving You,” the day before Valentine’s Day. The track, which is the first single off of their upcoming collaborative album I Said I Love You First, offers an intimate glance at the couple’s relationship. The full album comes on March 21.
The couple began publicly dating in December 2023, having dated in the shadows for a few months prior. They then announced their engagement on Dec. 11, 2024. A musical love story, this is the first collaborative project since they’ve been a couple, having previously collaborated on a few tracks here and there.
“The album celebrates the pair’s love story, giving fans a unique window into their relationship,” representatives for Gomez and Blanco shared in a release. “This album came together organically as a direct result of the comfort that they both felt when working together creatively, allowing them to produce art that authentically reflects their experiences. It chronicles their entire story—before they met, falling in love and looking to what the future holds.”
On the new song, Gomez and Blanco declare their love for one another. Written by the duo and FINNEAS, Billie Eilish’s brother and longtime collaborator, the track features the soft voice of Gomez with light backing vocals by Blanco. The pair dives deep into their love for one another, with lyrics that almost come off as vows.
Read the heartfelt lyrics below:
Verse 1:
If I broke your heart, would you take me back?
If I broke my arm, would you sign my cast?
When I was young, I would love too fast
Hope I don’t repeat my pastChorus:
‘Cause I’m not scared of lovin’ you
I’m just scared of losin’ you
I’m not scared of anyone or dying young
Or if you’re gonna find somebody new
‘Cause how could they love you
As much as I do?
As much as I doVerse 2:
If I lose my shit, promise not to laugh
If I throw a fit and get photographed
Would you take my side? Would you hold my hand?
If they sell a lie, don’t let ’em send me backChorus:
‘Cause I’m not scared of lovin’ you
I’m just scared of losin’ you
I’m not scared of anyone or dying young
Or if you’re gonna find somebody new
‘Cause how could they love you
As much as I do?
As much as I do
