This morning, Emilia Pérez earned 10 Golden Globe nominations, while Gomez got two individual nods: Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her work in Only Murders in the Building and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Emilia Pérez. (Her co-stars earned nods too: Zoe Saldaña was also nominated in the best supporting actress category while Karla Sofía Gascón was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.) Additionally, Gomez’s show Only Murders in the Building was nominated in the best musical or comedy TV series category.
Gomez had a lot to celebrate—and was at a loss for words when she found out the news. The actress had filmed her live reaction to her nominations and posted the video of herself covering her face, overcome with emotion, to her Instagram Story.
“I don’t even know what to write,” she captioned the footage. “I’m so proud of Zoe Saldaña, and I am so grateful and honored.”
Saldaña spoke to Variety about how she celebrated Emilia Pérez’s nominations. “After I called my mom and husband, I did leave a message for Selena because it is an honor to be nominated with her,” she said. “I know how hard she works, and I know how beautiful of a person she is and how deserving she is of this nomination. I immediately left her a voice message, and then she just left me one back, and she sounded the same way, crying and screaming. It was beautiful.”
Gomez spoke to ELLE in our December Women in Hollywood issue about how much making Emilia Pérez meant to her. “Being in this moment with these women [talking] about a movie that’s so important and moving and beautiful, it’s been a wow moment for me,” she said. “I definitely didn’t expect all of what’s happening. It just feels like a time in my life that I’m extremely grateful for. Honestly, every day I wake up thinking, How did I get to do this?” Read her full interview here.
