The Screen Actors Guild gave the world one highly-anticipated reunion. At the 2024 SAG Awards, The Devil Wears Prada stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Meryl Streep all presented the award for actor in a comedy series together, and threw in plenty of references from the iconic film.

First Streep appeared on stage, bumping into the mic and confessing to the crowd that she forgot her glasses and the envelope with the winning name. Then Blunt and Hathaway joined her on stage to hand her the missing items, like they did when they played her trusted assistants.

“It’s an age-old question: Where does the character end and the actor begin?” Streep began.

“Well, as we’ve just seen, Meryl and Miranda Priestly are sort of like twins,” Blunt chimed in, referencing the demanding editor-in-chief Streep famously portrayed.

“I don’t think I’m anything like Miranda,” Streep replied, before Hathaway cut her off with a Miranda quote: “No, no. That wasn’t a question.”

When Streep took too long to open the envelope, Blunt gave her own Miranda impression too. “By all means, move at a glacial pace. You know how much that thrills me,” she said.

While fans have hungered for more of the 2006 fashion magazine-set film, the cast hasn’t seen any good reason for a sequel. Blunt told the Happy Sad Confused podcast in early February this year that they see it as a one and done thing.

They are “good” without making a sequel, Blunt said. “Sometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble and it’s okay.”

“And I think—didn’t Meryl say something funny about it?” Blunt continued. “They asked her about it, ‘Would she ever do a sequel?’ and she went, ‘Yeah, if I don’t have to lose the weight.’ But I think she said ‘the fucking weight.’”

Hathaway also spoke about the likelihood of a sequel in November 2022, shutting down hope during an interview on The View. “I don’t know if there can be,” Hathaway said, via Variety. “I just think that movie was in a different era. Now, everything has gone so digital and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing. It’s just very different now.”

“It is tempting to think about Andy (Hathaway) and Emily (Blunt) needing to get Miranda (Streep) her coffee, and she’s somewhere in Europe and then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who’s at a restaurant,” she continued. “It’s tempting, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. They could relaunch it, find some new people and do it.”
