Unfortunately, red carpet darling Anya Taylor-Joy ended up skipping the Met Gala with its Gilded Glamour theme tonight. Taylor-Joy was silent on her social media today. She kept details on where she spent her day private, but it is worth noting that Taylor-Joy has several film projects in the works right now (Furiosa and Laughter in the Dark are among her films in pre-production, per her IMDB) and may have been preparing to film something.

Taylor-Joy has attended the Met Gala before, last going in 2018. But tonight would’ve been Tayl0r-Joy’s first time attending since her breakout role in The Queen’s Gambit made her a household name.

Taylor-Joy recently opened up to British Vogue a little about her private life and romance with musician Malcolm McRae. “I said to my partner the other day that he was my hobby. I see reading as something that I have to do,” she recalled. “He loved it because he’s the same. I’ve finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading. We’re basically 80 years old and seven at the same time and it works really well.”

The two are long distance from time to time, which is bittersweet, Taylor-Joy confirmed. “Yes, it is [hard], but it’s also kind of great because when you’re together you’re really valuing the time that you have,” she said. “Everyday mundane activities are so full of joy. I love going to the petrol station with him and filling up the car and going to get breakfast.”

Casual dating was never her style, she continued: “I was not a good dater and I’m quite glad to not be. I hear stories from my friends and I’m like, ‘God, I would suck at that.’”
