Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet had their most photographed date night ever in January at the Golden Globes. Then they disappeared from the public eye entirely until the end of June.
Jenner and Chalamet were seen on Friday, June 28, at TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Both wore black face masks on their movie date. They didn’t show any PDA in photos that came out, but the sighting offered solid proof that their romance remains on over a year in.
So why weren’t Jenner and Chalamet photographed for half a year?
Part of it was due to them actually being long distance. Chalamet spent months on the East Coast, shooting Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown in New York City and New Jersey. Filming began in March and continued through spring. As recently as June 11, Chalamet was photographed working on the project:
Shooting has since wrapped, and A Complete Unknown is now listed as in post-production as of June 20 on IMDbPro. Chalamet, as such, was able to return to Los Angeles, where Jenner is based. Jenner runs her companies and is raising her two children with ex Travis Scott there.
Beyond the physical distance, Jenner and Chalamet prefer to keep their relationship to themselves. GQ asked Chalamet about that in October, noting his desire for privacy is a bit at odds with him dating one of Instagram’s most followed women. Chalamet replied, “Sometimes, people are going to be hella confused when you say you’re trying to live a private life.”
But Chalamet and Jenner have done very well staying hidden throughout their time dating.
Although reports of their relationship broke in April 2023, they were not photographed clearly side-by-side until September at a Beyoncé concert.
Jenner has also found a way to stay out of sight but still support Chalamet at his premieres. She attended a London after-party for his film Wonka in November and snuck into the theater of the Los Angeles premiere in December.
Sources explained to People and Entertainment Tonight in late May 2024 that the couple still intends to keep a low profile.
People’s source said on May 23 that Jenner and Chalamet “are very low-key when it comes to their relationship and like to keep it that way.”
Multiple sources told Entertainment Tonight on May 29 that Jenner “plans to keep their relationship as private as possible.”
One insider gave details on how they manage during the long-distance periods: “Kylie and Timothée are still seeing each other and happy. They don’t need to try to make things work, and it just comes naturally to them. Their relationship is easy. They make an effort to see each other when they can and stay in touch when they’re not geographically close to one another. They’re in constant and fluid communication. They see a long-lasting relationship together.”
While the June 28 date photos offer the first clear look at Chalamet and Jenner this summer, there have been two other sightings since the Golden Globes.
Jenner and Chalamet were seen in New York City in late May, although no photos came out of that outing. People reported they had a late double date at Tatiana on May 23.
And in mid-March, a fan-taken photo came out of them getting ice cream while hooded and masked. The shot showcased the lengths they have gone to fly under the radar when out in public.
