Over the past few days, Meghan Markle made several appearances to support Prince Harry at the 2025 Invictus Games. The Duchess of Sussex, however, is expected to leave today despite the event running through February 16.
A source close to Invictus revealed the reason for Meghan’s exit to Hello!. It is not an indication of any drama, the insider made clear.
“This was always planned,” the source said. “Meghan is going home to be with her children [Lilibet and Archie, who are in Montecito, California]. Meghan left the games in Dusseldorf early after five days to go home. This is Prince Harry’s event, and she is there to support him, but this was planned.”
Earlier today, Meghan was photographed with Harry at a family and friends tubing event in Whistler. She wore an Aritzia coat, Rag & Bone sweater, white pants, and Sorel boots with a Moncler hat and Miu Miu sunglasses.
Meghan and Harry have regularly done events apart. In October, a friend of Meghan and Harry’s told People that the couple was purposely separating their career paths.
“An entrepreneurial and enterprise focus is going to be more the Duchess’s priority and the Duke will continue to champion his not-for-profit patronages,” the friend said. “But there will be joint efforts around those cause-driven areas of work.”
This shift is “as much a reflection on parenting priorities, in that one of them stays behind with the children,” the friend added.
Meghan introduced Harry at the welcome reception of the Invictus Games and offered a little insight into their lives as parents.
“I was not planning on speaking tonight, and we just arrived, I don’t know, a couple of hours ago, and I touched Canadian soil and I went, oh, it feels like home,” she started. “We are just thrilled to be here, and I would be remiss if I didn’t take the opportunity to introduce someone who means a lot to me. And I know he means quite a lot to all of you. You will see him throughout this week.”
The duchess shared how the games have shaped Harry’s interactions with their kids, saying, “What you won’t have seen is all of the moments that have happened in the lead-up to these Games, all of the moments where, as you know, with families, the big rush in the morning—getting ready for school, packing the lunch boxes, making breakfast. My husband’s in all of that with us, and then he’ll be on his phone, and Archie will say: ‘Papa, why are you on your phone?’ And he’s like, ‘That’s Invictus. I’m getting ready for Invictus.’”
