Why Taylor Swift Wasn’t at Travis Kelce’s Game Against the Carolina Panthers

Culture

On Sunday, Travis Kelce’s team the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Carolina Panthers in North Carolina. Taylor Swift was not in the stands to watch, despite finishing her six-show series in Toronto, Canada. Her last performance of her Eras Tour in the city was on Saturday, Nov. 23, making it a tight turnaround for the football game.

Kelce wasn’t able to make any of Swift’s recent shows in Toronto. The football star likely couldn’t getaway because NFL teams often have rules around what players can do the night before away games, according to the Bleacher Report, sometimes requiring their players to stay in the hotel together and abide by a curfew. He had a game the previous weekend as well, probably making it too difficult to go back and forth.

Swift has attended a number of Kelce’s games this season at Arrowhead Stadium, his home venue. A source speaking with Page Six said that it’s unlikely she’ll attend away games to see Kelce play, due to security concerns.

“She’s not going anywhere unless she knows the venue intimately and it has been thoroughly scouted and secured in advance,” said the insider.

Another source told the publication that Kelce offers Swift “a tremendous sense of peace.”

“Just his physical presence,” they explained. “She feels safer with him than anyone she’s ever known; she knows he would do anything for her and physically she feels protected by him, and she loves that feeling. It’s a relatively new one for her, relationship-wise.”

Though Kelce didn’t make it to Toronto, his family was still representing him. His father, Ed Kelce, was photographed in the audience enjoying Swift’s show on Saturday night at Rodgers Centre. He was smiling and wearing a number of beaded friendship bracelets.

From Toronto, Swift is heading to Vancouver to finish off her tour ahead of the winter holidays.
